  • Interest rates on buy to let mortgage rates tend to be a little more expensive than residential loans

  • You will be required to put down a bigger deposit usually in the region of 25%.

  • Affordability is typically linked to rental income calculations, lenders will use a ‘stressed’ interest rate to ensure that your rental income will cover monthly mortgage payments should interest rates increase in the future

  • Most buy to let mortgages are arranged on an interest only basis meaning that you do not pay off any capital via monthly payments
